Mission: Zhobia - Winning the Peace banner

This is probably one of the most immersive online games for honing peacebuilding skills you will find. If you are going to try this out, make sure you have the time! Unfortunately, the characters maintain the cultural narrative that a white westerner goes to a country in the global south (in this case, an invented African nation) to bring justice. Perhaps a future version will give options for the characters and even for insider-partial mediators. In any case, if you are looking for an online game to develop your analytical skills, give this a try and let us know what you think.

Imagine being sent to Zhobia, a country you never visited before, with a mission to develop the rule of law there. How will YOU maneuver through the complex socio-political environment? Will YOU be able to bring peace to Zhobia?

People Power: The Game of Civil Resistance

People Power is a game for either a PC or a Mac. As described on the website for the game:

People Power is about politics, about strategy and about social change. As a leader of a popular movement you fight against tough adversaries who control the police, the army and bureaucracy, even the media. The only weapon in your hand is your strategic skill and ingenuity.

People Power is more than a game. It’s an opportunity to join a community of others who want to learn about civil resistance and nonviolent strategies. Everyone can design scenarios and post them on the scenario page, available to the whole community. On our Forum, you can exchange ideas with other players and scenario designers.

  • The Internet Shutdown Game
    Hits: 170

Hand pressing on a button that looks like a globe graphic with a cloud behind symbolizing shutting down the internet.

This game can be played either online or in person.

Governments resort to internet shutdowns for a wide array of purposes and they are a troubling phenomenon that not only disrupt digital connectivity, but also pose a significant threat to human rights. We think that understanding the motivations and the distinct methods employed to block internet access is vital for individuals and organisations striving to safeguard internet freedom and protect human rights in the digital age.

So, we created a game to help shed light on various kinds of internet shutdowns and ways to counteract them. The game instructions can be utilised by anyone, whether you're planning to facilitate it in person or in an online setting. The target audience for this game encompasses human rights advocates, concerned citizens, legal professionals, and anyone who has encountered government control over internet access and seeks to deepen their knowledge in this area.
