Online Indices

A number of websites provide online indices that are helpful in looking at global trends in efforts toward building peace, whether that be positive indicators with respect to achieving peace or negative indicators regarding conflicts or terrorism. Listed here are some of those sites and their respective indicies.

We are grateful to Colleen Chiochetti who posted a larger list of indices on the PCDN website. Descriptions of these websites are primarily taken from her article. Be sure to let us know if there are any other websites with indicators you believe might be of interest to MPI alumni.

The Fragile States Index is a project of the Fund for Peace. It focuses on the indicators of risk worldwide.

The Fragile States Index (FSI) produced by The Fund for Peace (FFP), is a critical tool in highlighting not only the normal pressures that all states experience, but also in identifying when those pressures are outweighing a states’ capacity to manage those pressures. By highlighting pertinent vulnerabilities which contribute to the risk of state fragility, the Index — and the social science framework and the data analysis tools upon which it is built — makes political risk assessment and early warning of conflict accessible to policy-makers and the public at large.
